Dumort.
A Mediterranean-Atlantic species which grows in disturbed sandy or gravelly soils such as sand dunes, open mosaic habitats and roadsides. Until recently it was largely known only from southwesten, southern and southeastern England, but it has been gradually extending its range westwards into Wales in recent decades. Although quite distinct in its morphology to the more common vulpias, it can be overlooked and has probably been under recorded. There are enormous populations of Bearded Fescue in the open mosaic habitats of Baglan Energy Park and it appears to be spreading along the coast in West Glamorgan. It is represented here as Vulpia ciliata ssp. ambigua.
