Prunus serrulata Japanese Cherry

Coeden Geirios Japan

Lindley

A small deciduous tree often planted in parks, gardens, amenity areas and along streets and roads. It produces masses of white or pink flowers in spring. The leaves, which appear after the flowers are narrowly oval and have a long point at their tips. It is a native of Japan and China which can survive in suitable places as a relic of cultivation. There are many cultivated forms, some with very showy (flore pleno) pink flowers. It does not occur as a wild, naturalised species in West Glamorgan but cultivated plants have been recorded widely, particularly in the Swansea area.
