Polypodium cambricum Southern Polypody

Llawredynen Gymreig

Linnaeus

Southern Polypody is a distinctive polypody fern which belongs to the Mediterranean-Atlantic element of the British Flora. It has  has south-western distribution in Britain, England and Wales, where it is locally common in places. It prefers base-rich rocky substrates, such as limestone cliffs and walls but it also grows as an epiphyte on trees. The relatively large, broadly oval fronds and the pointed ends to the pinnae are charcateristic features that help to distinguish it from other polypody ferms. In West Glamorgan, it is most common along the south Gower coast.
