Leptospermum scoparium Broom Tea-tree / Mānuka

Known also as Broom Tea-tree, Mānuka is the key forage plant for bees in New Zealand that produce honey named after it and famed for its medicinal properties. Whilst the local bees enjoy the sweetness of a small number of mature shrubs planted at Duffryn Rhondda and Clyne Gardens, Welsh Mānuka honey is probably not a viable business proposition! All the Manuka trees in our area have been planted and it does not occur maturalised.
