Echinochloa esculenta Japanese Millet

Cibogwellt Japan

(A. Braun) H. Scholz

An annual grass which originates from Japan where it is a cultivated derivitive of Barnyard Grass (Echinochloa crusgalli). It probably originates from birdseed mixtures in Britain where it is a rather scarce, casual neophyte which rarely persists. Some records may be misidentifications for other Echinochloa species. It differs from Barnyard Grass in its unbranched but sometimes lobed inflorescence. There is just one record in West Glamorgan.
