Kunth
A prolific weed of waste places, waysides, gravelly ground and tracks. It is a native of South America which was first recorded in Britain in 1977. It has undergone a rapid and very significant expansion in its range in south Wales and is now a very common species in West Glamorgan, particularly in Neath Port Talbot. It was first noticed in coastal areas but it is currently undergoing a significant inland range expansion along valley roads and forest tracks. It is less common in Gower. Plants can be up to 1m in height and flower prolifically, producing huge amounts of seed that are dispersed very effectively in air currents which are aided by vehicle movements. It often occurs in large stands with hundreds of plants.
