Coincya monensis subsp. monensis Isle-of-Man Cabbage

Bresychen Manaw

An endemic taxon in the British flora, distributed unevenly along the west coast, with population in Gower, coastal Lancashire and Cumbria, West Scotland and the Isle of Man. It is similar to Wallflower Cabbage (Coincya monensis subsp. monensis), but it is usually a smaller plant, less bushy and often more or less prostrate or decumbent to ascending (rather than erect) with stems and inflorescences that are sparsely hispid. It is diploid (2n=24) unlike Wallflower Cabbage, which is tetraploid (2n=48), but hybrids between both have been produced under greenhouse conditions. It is extremely rare in West Glamorgan with a few populations in Gower mostly near Three Cliffs Bay.
