Cochlearia officinalis Common Scurvygrass

Dail Ysgyrfi

Linnaeus

Common Scurvygrass is a succulent, white-flowered crucifer of coastal cliffs and banks and occasionally inland along salted roads. It is very variable and a number of subspecies have been described. Plants in West Glamorgan are probably all Cochlearia officinalis subsp. officinalis. Although Common Scurvygrass is a widespread and locally common coastal species in Britain and Ireland, it is not common in south Wales and much less common than English Scurcygrass (Cochlearia anglica) with which it is frequently confused. In West Glamorgan, it is almost entirely confined to the south Gower cliffs.
