Clinopodium vulgare Wild Basil

A softly hairy, rhizomatous and slightly aromatically-scented, perennial labiate with purple-pink flowers. It is a fairly common plant of calcareous soils in dry grassy places, including dunes, hedgebanks and the edges of woodland. It is locally frequent in West Glamorgan with a largely coastal distribution. It is grown in gardens and sometimes occurs as a garden escape.
