Carpobrotus edulis Hottentot-fig

Ffigysen Felen

(L.) N.E. Br.

Hottentot Fig (also known as Kaffir Fig) is a fleshy, succulent perennial which produces stems that are densley matted and large multi-petalled pink flowers. It is native to South Africa but has become naturalised in the Mediterranean and widely across the Atlantic seaboard of Europe. It is an invasive, non-native species which can form large colonies on seacliffs. It's distribution in Britain is entirely coastal and it is confined to areas with mild climates. It is scarce in West Glamorgan with only a few records in Gower.
