Carex pendula Pendulous Sedge

Hesg Pendrwm

Hudson

A tall, unmistakable sedge with conspicous, drooping female spikelets. It is widespread and common throughout most of England and Wales where it occurs in damp, open woodland, woodland edge communities and shaded ditches, especially where there is a fairly constant supply of water. In West Glamorgan, it is frequent in suitable habitats in the South Wales Coalfield and often abundant along the shaded edges of forest roads, but it is uncommon in much of Gower. It has been grown in parks and gardens in the past and some plants my be descended from introductions.
