Carex paniculata Greater Tussock-sedge

Hesgen Rafunog Fawr

L.

A large, tussock-forming sedge of wet, peaty, usually fairly base-rich soils in swamps, mires and the edges of water bodies such as ponds, lakes and canals. It is often a striking member of  open fen-carr woodland where it can tolerate a moderate amount of shade. It is locally frequent and widespread in West Glamorgan. Some large, significant specimens occur on the banks of the Tennnat Canal near Jersey Marine and in wet peaty habitats in Gower, Crymlyn Fen and the uplands of Neath Port Talbot, e.g. Glyncorrwg, Gwrhyd.
