Carex pallescens Pale Sedge

Hesg Gwelw

Linnaeus

Carex pallescens, Pale Sedge, is a plant of open woodland, but also occuring in wet meadows and rough grasslands. The distinctive fruits (utricles) are oval and unbeaked and the bases of the lower bracts are crimped. All this coupled with the pale green colour make it easy to identify. It is occasional and rather local in West Glamorgan with most records from inland and upland locations.
