Carduus nutans Musk Thistle

Ysgall Pendrwm

Linnaeus

A robust thistle that produces large, attractive purple and fragrant flowering heads that nod in a way that gives it an unmistakable appearance. It is widespread along the coast of West Glamorgan, prefering base-rich soils, but it is most common in Gower. It also occurs inland along forest roads that have been dressed with limestone gravel, but much less frequently.
