Calystegia pulchra Hairy Bindweed

Taglys Blewog

Brummitt & Heyw.

Calystegia pulchra, Hairy Bindweed, is a fairly distinctive bindweed with pink flowers and hairy flower stalks that are usually narrowly winged. The two sepal-like bracteoles that surround the sepals overlap each other strongly. It is easily confused with the pink subspecies of Hedge Binweed (Calystegia sepium subsp. roseata) which also has pink flowers but the two bracteoles at the base of the flowers do not overlap. Hairy Bindweed is an introduced species in the British flora but its origin is unknowm. It grows in similar places to Hedge Bindweed and has a scattered but local, mostly lowland distribution in West Glamorgan and is usually found near the coast.
