Calamagrostis epigejos Wood Small-reed

Corsen Fach y Coed

(L.) Roth

Calamagrostis epigejos, Wood Small-reed, is a tall, reed-like grass that grows in a number of different habitats from shady places in woodland and hedgerow to more exposed sites on sand dunes. It also grows in ditches and banks along roads. It has a distinctly south-eastern distribution in Britain and is relatively uncommon in Wales, occuring mostly in coastal areas. However it has become more common in West Glamorgan in recent decades not only in coastal habitats but also inland and particularly along forest roads.
