(Linnaeus) Koch
Brassica nigra, Black Mustard, is sometimes found on maritime cliffs, where it is probably native. It is often quite robust with typical yellow mustard flowers and fruits that are distinctively appressed to the stems. More often it is found as an arable weed and it is locally abundant in this habitat in Gower. It is rarely recorded elswhere in West Glamorgan but it is also found in cultivated land and along roadsides in the Vale of Glamorgan. It can be confused with Hoary Mustard (Hirschfeldia incana), a very common neophyte species which also has tightly appressed fruits.
