Bidens frondosa Beggarticks

Graban Deiliog

Linnaeus

An uncommon North American Bur-marigoldĀ of wet places, including canals, ponds and marshes. The sharply toothed leaves are distinctly lobed and at least some are obviously pinnate. It can be confused with Trifid Bur-marigold (Bidens tripatita) which grows in similar places and has 3 lobed leaves that are not obviously pinnate and a different arrangement of barbs on its fruits (see description and photos of that species). It was once a frequent member of the bankside flora of the Neath Canal between Briton Ferry and Neath, but is has not been recorded there in recent decades.
