Asplenium ceterach Rustyback

Dueg-Redynen Feddygol

L.

Asplenium ceterach, Rustyback, is a widespread and common, desiccation-tolerant fern of mortered walls and calcareous rocks, including limestone scree. The mature, scaly fronds have a distinctive rusty-backed structure. Although not as common as Maidenhair Spleenwort (Asplenium trichomanes) and Wall-rue (Asplenium ruta-muraria), it is widespread in West Glamorgan, particularly on calcareous substrates in the lowlands.
