Apium nodiflorum Fool's-water-cress

Dyfrforon Swp-Flodeuog

(L.) Lag.

Apium nodiflorum, Fool's-water-cress, is a hairless, perennial umbellifer with a straggling growth form which bears a superficial resemblance to Water-cress (Nasturtium officinale) when it isn't in flower. It also bears a resemblence to Lesser Water-parsnip (Berula erecta), which has a distinctive parsnip-like smell. However unlike other aquatic umbellifers its umbells are sessile (not stalked). It is a fairly common plant of wet ditches, marshes and other wet places. It has a widespread, albeit generally lowland distribution in West Glamorgan.
