Anthyllis vulneraria Kidney Vetch

Linnaeus

Anthyllis vulneraria, Kidney Vetch, is a densley white hairy perennial legume that is usually yellow flowered. It is locally common in Britain, preferring calcareous grassland habitats on downs, dunes and cliffs. It is a common feature of coastal fixed dunes and limestone cliff grassland in West Glamorgan, but it is uncommon in the uplands away from the coast. A few small population are found inland in Neath Port Talbot but it is rarely seen along forest roads that have been dressed with limestone, which supports other calcicole species. It also occurs as a pink flowered form, which was once fairly frequent on Crymlyn Burrows, where there is a very large population of this species. It is the food plant for the Small Blue butterfly.
