Anchusa arvensis Bugloss

Bleidd-Drem

(L.) M. Bieb.

Anchusa arvensis, Bugloss, is a blue-flowered member of the Boraginaceae (Borage family) with bristly stems and wavy leaves. The corolla tube of the flower is kinked at the base which gives it a useful field identification charcter which will separate it from other buglosses and alkanets that you may encounter locally. Although widespread and locally common in Britain, it is not very common in West Glamorgan where it occurs in fixed dunes and other grassy places near the sea. Most records in West Glamorgan are from Gower.
