Ammi majus Bullwort

Esgoblys

Linnaeus

Ammi majus, Bulwort, is an annual member of the Apiaceae (Carrot family) and a casual of disturbed and ruderal sites. The delicate branched bracts below the white-flowered inflorescence are reminiscent of Wild Carrot (Daucus carrota), but the inflorescence doesn't develop the characteristic 'bird's nest' seen with that species, the leaves are more delicately dissected and when crushed they don't have a distinctive carrot-like scent. Although it was once a rather scarce species in West Glamorgan it is now seen increasingly as a casual derived from wild flower mixtures.
