Agrostis gigantea is distributed widely in lowland Britain, particularly in England, but appears to be uncommon in Wales. It is similar to Common Bent (Agrostis capillaris) but it is generally larger and with a more prominent ligule. Furthermore, it hybridises with Common Bent and Creeping Bent (Agrostis stolonifera) although the occurence and distribution of this hybrid is largely unknown. It is mostly a weed of arable fields where it exhibits vigorous rhizomatous growth. Because of difficulties in its identification and confusion with other Bent grasses, it is under recorded. Most of the reliable records in West Glamorgan are from arable fields in Gower.
