Lecanora argentata

(Ach.) Malme

Resembles Lecanora chlarotera but discs are more consistently a darker, red-brown. Sections of the apothecia reveal there are no granules in the epithecium, but with large crystals present in the exciple. The thallus is whitish, cracked and verrucose, smoother at margins, usually with some black prothallus visible. Grows on the twigs, branches and trunks of deciduous trees, records suggesting it is much less frequent that L. chlarotera. Recorded most recently in 2022 by CRH at the Gnoll Lake and Country Park.

Listed by Alan Orange in Flora of Glamorgan (Wade et al, 1994).
