Cortinarius croceus Saffron Webcap

Cap Gweog Saffrwm

(Schaeff.) Gray

Cortinarius croceus is a beautiful webcap which occurs in coniferous and broad-leaved woodland and is often found growing in a bed of haircap (Polytrichum) mosses under Lodgepole Pine (Pinus contorta) in West Glamorgan. The bright yellow gills are very striking and contrast with the reddish-brown cap, which is usually quite dark in colour.
