(Fr.) Fr.
Cortinarius caninus is a large webcap with a dull, ochre-brown cap up to 10cm in diameter. The pale, stout stem is often widened or clavate at its base and may be flushed blue at the top in young specimens. The spores are almost spherical (subglobose). It occurs in Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis) forests in West Glamorgan and is the largest webcap you are likely to encounter there, although it is rather uncommon.
