Agaricus sylvaticus Blushing Wood Mushroom

Schaeff.

A fairly common species with scaly, brown cap and flesh that becomes red on cutting particularly in the upper part of the stem and the cap. THe stem is white at first and then discolours to brown with age. It is widespread in both coniferous and broadleaved woodland and occasional in West Glamorgan, particularly in Gower woodlands.
