Agaricus campestris

Madarch y Maes

L.

This is a common mushroom familiar to many people who forage for edible species in autumn. It is common in meadows and fileds but may have decreased in recent decades with the loss of suitable habitats due to agricultural improvements. It is smaller than the Horse Mushroom (Agaricus arvensis) but it has a 'typical' mushroom smell rather than that of aniseed or almonds and its stem is usually shorter than the width of the cap, so it has a rather squat appearance.
