Agaricus bernardii Salty Mushroom

Madarch Hallt

Quél.

An uncommon mushroom with a white or greyish inrolled cap which is often darker in the centre. Mature fruiting bodies have an unpleasant, often fishy smell. It grows in grassland near the sea or in dunes and is one of the few species that has any degree of salt tolerance. It may be expanding its range along roadsides that are dressed with salt in winter in some areas. It is rare in West Glamorgan with records only from coastal grasslands in west Gower.
