Sphagnum squarrosum Spiky Bog-moss

Crome

A large, bright-green, autoicous bog-moss which grows in swampy or boggy habitats that are nutrient-enriched, such as fens and marshes but also commonly in marshy grasslands rush pasture and in marshy places in woodland. The distinctive spiky appearance of plants usually make it easy to identify. It is a boreal species with a wide distribution in Britain, particularly in the west and north and it is common throughout Wales. It is scattered throughout West Galmorgan but less common in Gower than in the South Wales Coalfield. Sporophyte capsules are common in summer.
