Sphagnum cuspidatum Feathery Bog-moss

Ehrh. ex Hoffm.

A yellow-green, dioicous bog-moss which grows in very wet, acidic habitats such as bog pools, acidic water bodies and sometimes on permenantly wet, dripping rock faces. It is the most aquatic Sphagnum species in the British flora and often froms extensive, submerged mats. Submerged plants have distinctive long leaves and when such plants are lifted out of the water they resemble soaking wet fur. It is found throughout much of western and northern Britain and it is widespread in Wales, including West Glamorgan. Sporophyte capsules are occasional in summer.
