Scorpidium revolvens Rusty Hook-moss

(Sw. ex anon.) Rubers

A rusty-brown or reddish-green, autoicous pleurocapous moss which froms extensive, thick, sprawling, prostrate mats in flushed habitats in the uplands, particularly where there is some base-richness. Shoots have long, irregular branches unlike the similar Scorpidium cossonii which has abundant short branches. It is a Boreao-arctic montane species with a western and northern distribution in Britain and a scattered distribution throughout the uplands of Wales. It is uncommon in West Glamorgan with recent records only from Cefn Bryn, Gower and the Lower Clydach Valley. Sporophyte capsules are occasional in summer.
