Scapania irrigua Heath Earwort

A dioicous leafy liveerwort which grows along gravelled tracks, compacted footpaths, on riverside shingle and in flushed grassland. It differs from Scapanea nemorea in its smaller size and leaves that are distinctly pointed. It is distributed widely throughout western and northern Britain is common in much of Wales. It is scattered widely in West Glamorgan where it is a characteristic species of forest tracks. Perianths are common but sporophytes are rare.
