(Schimp.) Hedenäs
A dioicous pleurocarpous hook-moss which grows in wet, low-nutrient habitats that are moderately or mildly acidic or in mildly basic flushed areas. The distinctly hooked, slightly pleated leaves have long, curved cells in their basal corners (see photo) and this feature will help to separate it from other similar hook-mosses. It has a western and northern distribution in Britain and is widespread in Wales. In West Glamorgan it is frequent in wet areas on the Gower Commons and in flushed habitats in Neath Port Talbot, including coal tips and forest road edges. Sporophyte capsules are rare.
This species is also known as Warnstorfia exannulata.
