(Bruch & Schimp.) T.J.Kop.
A synoicous acrocarpous moss which grows in base-rich mires, marshes and flushes. It produces relatively tall, erect shoots and is similar to Rhizomnium punctatum in that its stems are clothed in course rhizoids but unlike that species it also produces slender rhizoids which arise from the internodes and form a felt-like growth on the stem. It has a scattered, largely western and northern distribution in Britain, is found widely in Wales but is uncommon in south Wales. It is very rare in Glamorgan with records only from Gors Llwyn in West Glamorgan. Sporophyte capsules are frequent.
