Pseudoscleropodium purum Neat Feather-moss

(Hedw.) M.Fleisch.

A very common, yellow-green, dioicous pleurocarpous moss which grows in robust wefts in all but the most acidic grasslands that are not particularly wet or shaded. The fat, chunky shoots are regularly pinnate with broadly rounded leaves that are appressed and overlapping on the stems and have a small recurved point at their apex. It is widespread and abundant throughout Britain and it is ubiquitous in Wales in lowland and upland grassland habitats, including sand dunes, heathland and unimproved grasslands. It is a very common moss of grassland habitats in West Glamorgan. Sporophyte capsules are rare.
