Very similar to Pleuridium acuminatum and difficult to separtae from it unless you can locate the male antheridia on the dwarf male branches. It is much less a calcifuge than Pleuridium acuminatum and it is widespread in arable fields. Most records in West Glamorgan are from Gower. It is an autoicous species and it produces abundant capsules on short stalks among the leaves in spring and summer.
