Odontoschisma fluitans Bog Notchwort

(Nees) L. Söderstr. & Vána

A small, dark brownish-green, dioicous leaf liverwort which grows in bog pools (often submerged) or over the soaked surfaces of Sphagnum, e.g on denched carpets of Sphagnum cuspidatum. It is often associated with other small bog liverworts like Kurzia pauciflora and Odontoschisma sphagni. Unlike the other Odontoschisma species described here its leaves are conspicuously notched with rounded lobes. Although it is not particularly common in Britain it is scattered throughout the west and north and probably under recorded. There are a records in West Glamorgan from Cefn Bryn, Crymlyn Bog, Fforest Goch Bog and Penlanau Mire. Sporophytes are rare and gemmae are unknown.

This species was formerly and better known as Cladopodiella fluitans.
