Nardia geoscyphus Earth-cup Flapwort

(De Not.) Lindb.

A pale green, paroicous leafy liverwort which grows on cliffs and rocks and along streams in both coastal and, more commonly, upland locations. It has shallowly-notched leaves which will distinguish it from the much more common Nardia scalaris, which it otherwise resembles. It is a Boreo-arctic montane species and a rather scarce and predominantly northern species in Britain. It is rare in Wales with just one record in West Glamorgan from Gors Llwyn. Sporophyte capsules are common.
