Mnium hornum Swan's-neck Thyme-moss

A dark-green, dioicous acrocarpous moss which grows in woodland and hedgerows, on soil, logs, tree bases and occasionally as an epiphyte or on rock, sometimes in mountains. It forms robust mounds and mats in both broadleaved and conifer forests which produce tall, conspicuous sporophytes with drooping capsules in spring and summer. The leaves are bordered with a double-toothed margins and the nerve ends just below the leaf tip.  It is a very common species which is ubiquitous in Britain and found throughout Wales. It is one of the most common woodland bryophytes in West Glamorgan and is often abundant in Sitka Spruce forests. Sporophytes are common
