Microbryum rectum Upright Pottia

(With.) R.H.Zander

A very small, autoicous, acrocarpous moss and a calcicole that grows in similar habitats to Microbryum davallianum, i.e. distubed calcareous soils in arable fields, tracks and calcareous cliffs. It differs from that species in its capsules which are spherical with a lid that bears a short point. It has a similar distribution in Britain but is less common and very scarce in south Wales. In West Galmorgan it has only been recorded along the south Gower coast. Sporophyte capsules are abundant from autumn to spring.
