Lewinskya striata Shaw's Bristle-moss

(Hedw.) F.Lara, Garilleti & Goffinet

Similar to Lewinskya affinis and found growing as an epiphyte in similar places. It differs in its dry capsules which are smooth and not furrowed and have 16 outer peristome teeth that become reflexed (see photo). The leaves are sharply pointed. Without capsules identification is difficult but, fortunately, it is autoicous and sporophyte capsules are abundant in spring and summer. It has a scattered distribution in Britain and is most common in the southwest, including Wales. It is less common than Lewiskya affinis in West Glamorgan although it is probably under recorded.
