Hyocomium armoricum Flagellate Feather-moss

(Brid.) Wijk & Margad.

A golden-green, dioicous, pleurocarpous moss which grows on banks, rocks and tree roots near to streams, usually in upland habitats. The triangular leaves come to sharp point and have finely toothed margins, most easily seen with a hand lens, and the nerve is short and double. It is an Oceanic species with a distinct western and northern distribition in Britain and it is common and widely distributed in Wales. In West Glamorgan it is a common species on the banks of upland streams and rivers in Neath Port Talbot, but it is rare in Gower. Sporophyte capsules are very rare.
