(L.) Dumort.
A very common dioicous, epiphytic leafy liverwort which grows on the trunks and branches of broad-leaved trees such as ash, elder, elm, hazel, willow and others. The circular, dark coloured, branched colonies which grow appressed to the surface are recognisable at distance when they are growing on pale-coloured bark. It is widespread and common throughout Britain except in the highlands of Scotland and parts of the Midlands of England and it is unbiquitous and abundant in Wales. It is found throughout West Galmorgan. Sporophyte capsules are common throughout the year.
