Fissidens incurvus Short-leaved Pocket-moss

Starke ex Roehl.

A dioicous or autoicous Pocket-moss with bordered leaves which grows on slightly acidic or moderately base-rich soils in woodland and in open places. The best way to distinguish it from Fissidens bryoides, which it resembles, is by the capsules which are inclined (capsules are erect in Fissidens bryoides). It is a southern species in Britain and is widespread in southwest Wales. Most of the recotds in West Galmorgan are from south Gower. Sporophyte capsules are abundant from autumn to spring.
