(Hook.) Dumort.
Similar to Diplophyllum albicans but with shorter and wider leaves that lack the band of clear cells which are present in the leaves of that species. Also, much less common in Britain overall, but scattered in Wales. In The Mosses and Liverworts of Carmarthen, Sam Bosanquet described the typical habitat of this pioneer species as banks of iron-stained friable soil by forest tracks. So far there have been few records of it West Glamorgan and none from the extensive forest tracks in the conifer plantations of Neath Port Talbot, but it may have been overlooked there. It is a paraoicous species and sporophytes are frequent.
