Didymodon rigidulus Rigid Beard-moss

Hedw.

A common, dioicous, acrocapous moss which grows on calcareos rocks, stones and concrete. It is particularly commmon on old mortered walls. It forms dark-green tufts or loose cushions with narrow, pointed leaves which have a prominent nerve. It is found throughout Britain and Ireland being absent only fom higher ground in the north and some areas of middle and eastern England. It is very common in Wales and is scattered throught the lowlands in West Glamorgan. Sporophyte capsules are frequent in winter and spring.
