Didymodon luridus Dusky Beard-moss

Hornsch. ex Spreng.

A dark-green, dioicous, acrocarpous moss which grows on base-rich rock, stone and walls. It forms fairly compact tufts with broad concave leaves, with recurved margins, which narrow fairly abruptly to a blunt point and have a broad nerve. It is a Suboceanic Mediterranean-Atlantic species which is most common in the south of Britain. It is absent from much of mid and north Wales and scattered in West Glamorgan where it is most common along the south Gower coast. Sporophyte capsules are very rare.
