Dichodontium palustre Marsh Forklet-moss

(Dicks.) M.Stech

A  light yellow-green, acrocarpous moss which forms cushions and sometimes extensive mounds in wet ditches, seepages, flushes and the edges of streams in upland areas. The colour and growth habit and the fact that the leaves curve downwards near their tips, all contribute to a distinctive 'look'. It is a Boreal-montane species with a western and northern distribution in Britain. It is common and widespread in the Welsh uplands and, in West Glamorgan, it is most commmon in the uplands of Neath Port Talbot where it is a frequent member of the roadside ditch and streamside community in conifer plantations. Sporophyte capsules are rare.
